First, lemme introduce myself. I got Mi Band sorta quite pioneer batch in Singapore, much before it was launched in Singapore on 29th of Nov 2014. I am using a Samsung Note 4 as of right now.
My official date of start using 1st of Dec, but I skipped some weekends when I lazying at home. This is my first band, or would say, first pedometer that I have. Therefore I do not have any benchmark to compare or experience about that. However my phone does have pedometer.
So I will walk thru some of my find outs and the older version of interface (install since my first use) in case you are considering of getting one.
First, let's start of with unboxing.
It came with a thin plastic cover that I already tore off, with a pen as benchmark of d box size.
Bottom part of the box. To me it is not a friendly box, because it does not have any place for you to hold the box, so it is harder to open compared to if it has some place to hold. So I shook it off.
The first sight after open up the box.
Things that you can find in the box, band, the sensor, usb charger, use manual.
The size of the sensor as compare to a SD card.
The picture below shows how the band look like at the bottom. Will need to clip on everyday if one put it on like a watch as in take out every night. There is a hook to keep the lock in place. If the user has a big palm, then may consider still wanna use d hook or not, or think whether to take off so frequent or not. I have been using it for 3 weeks plus, and still in one piece, still cannot tell if it is strong or fragile.
Sometimes I will need to clean my sweat that trapped inside the house where the sensor is placed on the top part.
Personally I don't put it on 24 hours. I only put on together with my watch. I find it not that easy to clip on especially when I am in a rush. Need at least 2 fingers, one to hold the inner part of the band, another one finger at the outer part of the band to push the button in.
Now, I will go thru the user manual in brief. Everything is in mandarin, sorry to those who can't read mandarin, with page:
1. Introduction to the band, how to put on.
2. QR code to scan and will bring user to PlayStore to install the app. (they just released ios version of app recently)
3. Follow instruction to create/log in Mi account, and it will bring u to a page to scan for Mi Band. When the blue lights blink, it means done pairing.
4. Start monitoring ur steps and sleeping condition with lights indications. 1 dot = 1/3 completion blinks, etc.
5. When 3 red lights blink on and off, it means low batt. Plug in to USB and start charging.
Page 6-9 are all about the product, Mi Band specs (it's stated there, only for reference, and they are slightly different from the website also, I believe website contains more updated ones).

Total Length of the band: 225mm
Adjustable length: 157-205mm
Bluetooth 4.0

Material of the band, the button and the battery, etc.
Support System: Android 4.4 and above, support Bluetooth 4.0 Xiao Mi handphone.
Before start using Mi Band, you MUST create a Mi account (for those who never buy a Mi product before). I don't really quite like this idea, frankly.
Register with phone number and SMS verification. A profile is created with an ID number given. You are required to set some of the details, which I will touch on later.
So now, let's put on Mi Band and try it out. This was my result for today. Click on the circle to obtain hourly report. Run or walk at a particular hours as data shown.
The past report are all recorded in chart form.
Can compile the statistics into week chart using the + - sign at the bottom. Toggle between sleeping chart and sports chart with the moon button.
Can also compile them into month chart.
May share the report of anytime in the past, or compiled report via the few channels as shown at the bottom of the screen.
May also share the report of today, orange from chart page to share, blue from homepage to share or from menu button.
At the middle of the homepage, will see 2 dots, slide left or right to toggle between sleep and exercise mode. Sleep mode, I didn't use everyday, in fact from the details shown, do you think I would sleep for 13 hours? It is not too accurate, because I took off and left on my table, and I continue to wear it when I sleep at night, so it was reported as 13 hours of sleep, with the same case on 9th of Dec.
When the report is still "fresh", as in just last night, it will breakdown the time frame of deep and light sleep. Eg: 1-3am light sleep (light grey), 3-3.20am awake (orange color), 3.20-7am deep sleep (dark grey color), almost the same as shown below, but I do not know how to retrieve the report, or the reports are not kept that way? (same goes for exercise)
The darker or the bottom part is the deep sleep and top part with lighter color indicates light sleep or shallow sleep. This report makes more sense. Same thing, may share, or toggle between pages.
Click on "..." symbol in the first screen, will lead to a menu.

My devices is as shown below.
Battery life is shown, but as I mentioned, I start using on 1st Dec, that's the day I charged it fully also. so, precise battery was charged 23 days ago, not 76 days. I use it only day time, got "night light saving", that's why the battery still so much? hmm, not sure.
4 colors to be chosen for notification blinking lights. The color is just for reference, the exact color is brighter and lighter color.
Band Location.
Notification for incoming call. I tried it out, that only works when you turn on the bluetooth, and will not work when the bluetooth is off, or in another words, not in sync. Vibrate after the chosen seconds of not answering the call.
Have the options to choose up to 30 seconds.
Can choose to unpair, slide down further to see firmware version.
Alarm, you will have 3 alarms maximum. with "Early Bird Alarm" that wake u up 30 min before set alarm time, similar with "Smart Alarm" in Samsung phone. Have the option to repeat pattern of the alarms.
Alarms can only be set when the device is in sync. However it will still vibrate even after the bluetooth is off.
I am not too familiar with this alarm as I never use. It snoozes every 10 minutes, 5 vibration each time it "rings" silently. I have no idea how to get rid of the snooze tho.
In Profile page, with ID shown, and avg steps taken, total of days in use, total distance in km. All the fields are to be set.
User is free to set their goal from 2k-30k steps a day.
Other activities that can be monitored, that I have never try out.
You may vote for your favorite sports, that will be coming soon? not sure, never use.
Can also add your WeChat account.
My version of Mi Band app is 1.1.861 only.
I choose not to update the app in my phone, because the new version of app will need to access the location of the device.
Currently it already has access to: Device & app history, Identity, Photos/Media/Files, Wi-Fi connection information, Bluetooth connection information and Device ID & call information.
Users are welcomed to send feedback.
After introduce about the band, I would like to add in my feelings about it.
It states there is an unlocking system with Mi Band, first my phone is not Xiaomi one, second, I am not keen to find out about it. So, feel free to find out and share with the others?
Mi Band comes with a lot of color designs, so, it is sure can fit anyone from any color preference.
Personally I find it redundant, as my phone already has pedometer. I don't feel comfortable putting on something on my wrist when I sleep at night. There were nights I put on, and ended up wake up with a deep button marks on my wrist. It doesn't matter, but just not my preference.
I will put it on everyday day time to monitor my steps. It will vibrate twice with LEDs blinking when the goal is met. Sometimes I walk a little faster when I was in rush, then it would mark me as Running, instead of walking. Haha... So, just a matter of feeling of achievements.
Added on 4 Jan 2015: I realize when I transit in vehicles, d steps keep counting also. Wonder is there a way to stop it from counting..
There are many many many brands out there, like the few famous one, such as Phillips, Jawbone, Adidas, Samsung, Garmin and a lot more that works about the same or more features with of course, much higher price range. Everyone of them may use different sensor and different technologies. This Mi Band cost a user SGD19.90, which is way cheaper than any other brands out there. HOWEVER...... I see a lot of people that wearing the Mi band when I go out on the street. Didn't have that feeling before it was launched, but after it was launched, a lot more people start owning it and people start to notice about it, especially those consider buying will ask me about it...
So if the user is someone that those who doesn't like to wear the same clothes, or same things with others, may need to think twice before buying. Or those OCD type of people, would they consider buying? Hmm.. who knows? So I would say, think of what you expecting from Mi Band, then it will be more justified, to buy or not to buy.. hahaha...
Anyway, if you read up until this point. Thank you very much.
Seldom write any product review or intro. Hope this help in getting a bit more understanding about Mi Band. Sorry that I am not updating the app.
